Haruna Iddrisu, the Education Minister-designate, has pledged to prioritize enhancing the quality of education in the country if confirmed for the role.
Speaking during his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee, Mr. Iddrisu reaffirmed his dedication to addressing systemic issues within the education sector.
He acknowledged challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, outdated curricula, and disparities in access to quality education.
“Improving the quality of education is not just a goal; it is a necessity for national development,” he stated.
Mr. Iddrisu stressed the importance of incorporating evidence-based strategies to tackle these issues effectively.
As part of his agenda, the nominee highlighted the need to collaborate with stakeholders, including educators, parents, and development partners, to create a robust education system.
“We will rely on systematic reviews and credible data from various sources, including international research databases, to inform our policies,” he added.
The nominee also reflected on the difficulties faced by teachers and students in rural areas, including the lack of essential resources and unfavorable learning conditions, such as extreme weather.
He promised to champion solutions that ensure equitable education opportunities for all, regardless of location or socioeconomic status.
“I want to assure the committee and the people of Ghana that my tenure will focus on addressing these challenges systematically.
Together, we can turn these aspirations into reality and create a future where every child has access to quality education,” Mr. Iddrisu concluded.
The Appointments Committee is expected to deliberate on his responses and decide on his confirmation in the coming days.
