The Chief Executive Officer of Mobile Money Limited, Shaibu Haruna, has been honoured with the CEO of the Year – Fintech award at the 4th edition of the Ghana CEO Vision and Awards.
The award, held at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra, recognises Haruna’s remarkable leadership and innovation in the fintech industry, particularly his transformative role in advancing digital financial services and promoting financial inclusion across Ghana.
Under his leadership, Mobile Money Ltd, a subsidiary of MTN Ghana, has consolidated its position as a market leader in digital finance, driving customer-focused innovation and expanding access to mobile financial services nationwide.
Reacting to the honour, Mr. Haruna attributed the award to the efforts of his team and stakeholders.
“This recognition is a testament to the incredible work of the Mobile Money Ltd team and the entire MTN Ghana team. We remain committed to delivering cutting-edge digital financial solutions that empower individuals, businesses, and communities across Ghana and beyond,” he said.
He also dedicated the award to MoMo customers and stakeholders, acknowledging their loyalty and support.
“Their partnership, loyalty, and commitment in using the MoMo platform have contributed to deepening financial inclusion in Ghana,” he added.
With over 25 years of commercial experience across Africa and the Middle East, Shaibu Haruna is a seasoned executive whose expertise spans Fast Moving Consumer Goods, automobile, financial services, e-commerce, and telecommunications. For the past 18 years, he has worked in the telecom and digital services space, successfully leading business transformations in Ghana, Uganda, South Africa, and Saudi Arabia.
A significant portion of Haruna’s telecom career has been with MTN, where he designed and implemented a successful distribution model in Ghana. This model has since been adopted in several MTN Group markets. In 2022, he was appointed CEO of Mobile Money Ltd, which remains the leading provider of mobile financial services in the country.
Since its inception in 2009, Mobile Money Ltd has played a pivotal role in shaping Ghana’s digital payments landscape and creating economic opportunities for millions of users.
