The Democracy Hub has strongly condemned the alleged police brutality against its convener, Oliver Barker Vormawor, who
remains in police custody.
According to Democracy Hub, reports suggest Vormawor was beaten at Striking Force Regional Commands before being transferred to a different station.
“This morning, we received notice that our convener, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, who is still in Police custody, was picked up from Striking Force at Regional Commands and moved to a new Police Station”
“We are deeply disturbed to learn that the Police BEAT him at Striking Force before transferring him to a different station”, the statement emphasized.
The organization expressed deep concern over the continuous unprofessional conduct of the Police Service and its disregard for human dignity.
“The conduct of the Police, led by IGP Dampare, has consistently shown a blatant disregard for human dignity and respect for those awaiting trial”.
This incident Democracy Hub believe underscores the need for reform, highlighting the reasons behind the group’s recent hunger strike.
Democracy Hub demanded the following
- An immediate end to all forms of police brutality.
- A thorough investigation into the incident involving Oliver Barker-Vormawor.
- Accountability for all officers involved in acts of misconduct
- A complete overhaul of the Police Professional Standards Bureau and
- Implementation of stringent measures to protect the rights and dignity of all detainees.
The Democracy Hub however urges concerned bodies to join in condemning these actions and demands immediate attention to address the systemic issues within the police force.
