Ghana’s Minister for the Interior, Hon. Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has called for increased collaboration between Ghana and the European Union (EU) to enhance security and stability in the country.

During a meeting with an EU delegation led by H.E. Irchad Razaaly, the EU Ambassador to Ghana, the minister commended the EU’s ongoing support and emphasized the need for deeper engagement between the EU and Ghana’s ministries and security agencies.

“This partnership is vital as it not only reinforces our shared objectives but also aligns with the broader goals of stability and peace within the region,” he stated.

Hon. Muntaka reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to maintaining peace and security, stressing that a stable environment is crucial for national development.

He assured the EU delegation that the government would take all necessary measures to safeguard the country’s security and ensure a conducive atmosphere for economic growth.

Beyond security matters, the discussions also focused on improving Ghana’s prison system.

Key issues such as prison decongestion and enhancing correctional facility equipment were highlighted as areas where EU assistance could significantly improve the justice system’s efficiency.

The minister underscored the importance of prioritizing rehabilitation efforts within Ghana’s correctional facilities to ensure effective reintegration of inmates into society.

The meeting also touched on the EU Security and Defence Initiative (EUSDI), which aims to strengthen Ghana’s security capabilities in response to emerging threats in the Gulf of Guinea region.

The initiative, the minister noted, aligns with Ghana’s national priorities and represents a collaborative effort toward achieving long-term stability and resilience against security challenges in West Africa.
