The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has inaugurated a committee tasked with reviewing the recruitment processes of Ghana’s security services.
The committee will assess recruitment into institutions such as the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and Ghana Immigration Service.
Speaking at the inauguration, the minister emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring a professional, efficient, and accountable security sector under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama.

This assignment is in response to concerns raised regarding transparency, fairness, and efficiency in recent recruitment exercises, prompting the need for a thorough review to restore public trust.
“The integrity of these processes directly impacts the credibility and effectiveness of our security services. This review will ensure that recruitment aligns with national security needs while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and fairness,” he stated.
The committee has been tasked with a mandate to assess the transparency, fairness, and integrity of recruitment processes.
The committe will also evaluate compliance with due process and recommending measures to enhance transparency and accountability.
At the end of the committee’s work, the committee members are expected to submit a report detailing its findings, challenges identified, and proposed reforms.

The committee is chaired by Yaw Akrasi Sarpong and includes experienced professionals in security administration, public service, and legal expertise.
Other members include Bright Oduro (COP Retd.), Eric Afari (DCOI Retd.), Ben Lartey (DDP Retd.), Lawyer Elsie Appau, Paa Kwesi Adutwum (DCFO Retd.), and Alexander Twum-Barimah Esq. as secretary.
The committee is expected to complete its work within two weeks and report directly to the minister.
To facilitate the committee’s work, the government will provide logistical and financial resources, including office space, stakeholder consultations, and technical support.

Minister Mubarak urged committee members to approach their mandate with diligence, objectivity, and integrity, stating, “Your findings and recommendations will shape the future of security sector recruitment in Ghana.”
The review is seen as a crucial step in ensuring a credible and merit-based recruitment system for Ghana’s security services.
