The Interior Minister has praised the Ashanti Regional Police Command for its decisive action in arresting a suspected drug trafficker in Kumasi, describing the operation as a significant step in the fight against narcotics.
He urged the public to support ongoing efforts to rid the city of drug trafficking, which he said is endangering the lives of young people and fueling criminal activity pariticularly at “Tinka Island”.
“Let’s work together to rid Kumasi of drug trafficking, which is destroying our youth and fueling crime,” he said, encouraging citizens to provide credible information to the police.

The commendation follows a successful anti-drug operation over the weekend, during which a 59-year-old Adam Mohammed and accomplice who were arrested for their alleged involvement in the distribution of illegal drugs.
The operation conducted on Saturday night around 10 p.m. at a known hotspot at Aboabo .
According to ASP Godwin Ahianyo, the Ashanti Central Regional Police Public Relations Officer, the raid resulted in the seizure of a significant quantity of illegal substances. Items retrieved included 520.3 grams of suspected narcotics, n328 bottles of tramadol (80mg), 11 sachets of an unidentified substance labeled “kitchen drug”, Two slabs of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 50 empty containers believed to be used for packaging illicit drugs and GH¢66,950 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales.
ASP Ahianyo noted that the prime suspect is a well-known figure in the area with a history of suspected involvement in drug trafficking. He stressed that the arrest is part of broader efforts to dismantle drug networks and improve public safety in the Ashanti Region.
“This operation was in response to growing public concern about increased drug trafficking in certain parts of Kumasi,” he said. “The Ashanti Regional Police Command remains fully committed to the fight against narcotic offenses and all other forms of crime.”
He added that the suspects are currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing. Legal proceedings are expected to commence shortly, with assurances from the police that due process will be observed.
In his closing remarks, ASP Ahianyo reaffirmed the police’s commitment to sustaining such operations across the region and beyond.
“Similar exercises will continue to be rolled out in other areas as we work tirelessly to dismantle criminal enterprises and restore peace,” he stated.
The Police Command also urged the public to remain alert and support law enforcement by providing timely and accurate information to help combat crime effectively.
