’I’ll be very surprised if she’s cleared’— Sammy Gyamfi on Chief Justice investigation

The government says it will take no further action against the Acting Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, following public backlash over a controversial “dollar gift” presented to evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, also known as Nana Agradaa.

Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, made the announcement during a press briefing at the Jubilee House, clarifying that the embattled CEO has already taken the necessary remedial steps.

“The presidency acknowledges the incident, and while there were errors in judgment, the Acting CEO has shown contrition and offered a public apology. As such, there will be no further sanctions,” Kwakye Ofosu stated.

The issue drew sharp criticism from civil society organizations, religious bodies, and opposition groups, particularly the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who cited potential violations of the Bank of Ghana’s Foreign Exchange Act, 2006 (Act 723), as well as breaches of ethical conduct for public officials.

In the immediate aftermath of the incident, Sammy Gyamfi issued a public apology and expressed regret over the gesture, which many viewed as inappropriate and politically insensitive. The presidency confirmed that the Chief of Staff was briefed upon returning to the country and subsequently convened internal discussions to assess the matter.

“The government values feedback from the public and institutions, and this incident serves as a reminder of the standards expected of public officials. We consider the apology and caution issued as sufficient,” Kwakye Ofosu added.

He emphasized that the administration remains committed to accountability, transparency, and the principles of good governance, but also recognizes the importance of proportional responses.

“This moment should be viewed not just as a lapse, but as an opportunity to reflect on the conduct of public officers and to encourage higher ethical standards moving forward,” he said.

While the controversy has sparked broader conversations about public trust and state resource management, the presidency believes that the matter has been resolved satisfactorily and does not warrant further disciplinary action.

Sammy Gyamfi will continue to serve in his role as Acting CEO of GoldBod.
