Twenty-eight out of 41 individuals charged with alleged involvement in illegal mining (galamsey) activities at the Tano and Subri rivers in the Western Region have been discharged by the High Court following further investigations.
On May 2, the 41, divided into two sets of 29 and 12, were arraigned and remanded.

With the first set of 29, 17 of them have been discharged with the remaining 12 to stand trial while the second set of 12, eleven of them have been discharged with one person remaining.
The remaining 13 will face trial on charges including unlicensed mining operations, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, and water pollution.
The case, initially involving 41 accused persons divided into two groups, has been adjourned to May 27 by the Court presided over by Justice Kizito Naa Koowa Quarshie.
