The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi widely known as King Zuba, has revealed that more than half of the traders operating at unauthorized locations at the Kejetia City Market, popularly known as the Dubai Market, have been cleared.
Speaking on the Daybreak morning show on Fakye TV, hosted by Kojo Marfo, the MCE said the ongoing decongestion exercise forms part of the Assembly’s efforts to restore order and ensure safety within the market enclave.
According to him, approximately 60 percent of traders selling at unapproved areas have so far been relocated.
“We’ve cleared about 60% of traders who sell at unapproved places around the Kejetia City Market,” Mr. Agyeman Boadi confirmed.

Reacting to public allegations that some KMA officers have been extorting money from traders during the exercise, the MCE said he has received no formal complaints to substantiate such claims.
He explained that although several traders have made the accusations on various media platforms, none has come forward with names or evidence.
“It was the clearance that brought about the issues of officers taking money from traders,” he said.
“I have asked the alleged victims to come forward with the names of the officers involved, but so far, no one has done so. I cannot punish any officer based on hearsay because anyone can make accusations on the radio.”
Mr. Agyeman Boadi further urged victims of alleged extortion to report identified culprits to the Assembly or to the police for investigation and possible prosecution.
“I want them to present the names so that I can hand them over to the police to face the law. I’m still encouraging all the victims to come forward because I want to get to the bottom of this,” he emphasized.
