Professor Samuel Yaw Akomea of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, has been named Best Professor in the 2025–2 round of the X-Culture International Collaboration Project, emerging top among nearly 200 lecturers worldwide for excellence in global experiential teaching.
Prof. Akomea received the award after ranking first among 198 professors whose combined 6,165 students from 162 universities across 53 countries and six continents participated in the programme during the semester.
X-Culture is a large-scale international experiential learning initiative that exposes students to global virtual collaboration. Participants work in culturally diverse teams to develop practical business solutions for real companies operating in different parts of the world.
As part of the 2025–2 cohort, 163 KNUST students enrolled in Prof. Akomea’s course took part in the project, collaborating with peers from multiple countries to produce detailed business proposals and implementation plans.
Project assessments indicated that students also interacted directly with company chief executive officers and founders through live webinars, where they gained first-hand insights into business operations and received professional feedback on their ideas.
Beyond its teaching component, X-Culture also functions as a research platform for examining the dynamics, effectiveness and performance of global virtual teams.
In a citation accompanying the award, X-Culture Founder and Coordinator, Dr. Vasyl Taras, praised Prof. Akomea for his consistent commitment to teaching excellence. He noted that the KNUST lecturer met all programme requirements promptly, provided strong academic support to students and addressed challenges in a timely manner.
The citation described Prof. Akomea’s dedication as going “above and beyond” to ensure a high-quality and impactful learning experience.
The performance of KNUST students was also commended, with the project describing them as well-prepared, highly engaged and proactive in contributing intellectually to their international teams.
X-Culture has earned multiple international accolades for advancing experiential learning and cross-institutional collaboration, including recognition from the Academy of Management and the Academy of International Business.
