Suzy Adwoa Pinamang, a Ghanaian high school student of Bantema Adventist SHS who sustained a gunshot injury to her eye, in school is scheduled to undergo surgery in the United Kingdom next month.
This development was confirmed by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, during his recent visit to London.
Pinamang, a second-year student at Adventist Senior High School in Bantama, Ashanti Region, was accidentally shot in the eye by a male classmate on April 4, 2025.
Following initial treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, medical experts recommended advanced surgical care abroad due to the severity of her injury.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs facilitated the acquisition of UK visas for Pinamang and two caregivers.
Businessman Ibrahim Mahama has generously committed to covering all expenses related to her treatment and travel.
The Ghana High Commission in London has been instructed to provide special consular support during her stay.
Minister Ablakwa expressed gratitude to UK High Commissioner Harriet Thompson for her assistance in expediting the visa process.
He also acknowledged the efforts of Bantama MP Francis Asenso-Boakye, who brought Pinamang’s case to the Ministry’s attention.
“Suzy is in high spirits and doing well,” Ablakwa noted, commending the staff of the Ghana High Commission in London for their exceptional care.
He urged the public to continue praying for her recovery, stating, “God won’t let us down.”
The incident has drawn national attention, highlighting the need for stringent safety measures in schools.
Authorities are reportedly investigating the circumstances surrounding the accidental shooting.
