The Kumasi High Court has handed a combined sentence of life imprisonment and 120 years with hard labour to a 36-year-old man, Dominic Afriyie, alias “GH,” for his role in a violent robbery and the murder of a pharmacist at Atasemanso in 2021.
The verdict was delivered on Thursday, May 15, 2025, by His Lordship Mr. Abdul Razak, ESQ, after a full trial in which a seven-member jury unanimously found Afriyie guilty on two counts of robbery and one count of murder.
According to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the incident occurred on November 20, 2021, when Afriyie stormed the residence of 43-year-old Michael Dela Agbo Klu, a pharmacist and building contractor, at gunpoint.
During the robbery, Afriyie stole two mobile phones, an ASUS Zenbook laptop, and GH₵1,500 in cash before shooting and killing Mr. Klu.
Police intelligence later led to the arrest of Afriyie and three others on December 31, 2021, around 2:20 a.m., while traveling in a Toyota Corolla with registration number AS 5970-20.
A search of the vehicle revealed two pistols and two single-barrel shotguns. Subsequent investigations confirmed that Afriyie acted alone in the fatal attack on Mr. Klu.
Despite denying the charges during trial, overwhelming evidence led to his conviction.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Godwin Ahianyo, Head of Public Affairs for the Ashanti Region, praised the court’s decision, highlighting the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to justice and community safety.
“This conviction underscores our commitment to bringing violent criminals to justice and ensuring the safety of our citizens,” DSP Ahianyo stated.
