A new nationwide poll by Global InfoAnalytics reveals that a growing majority of Ghanaians believe the country is on the right track, with public approval ratings for the president and government also showing significant improvement.
According to the June 2025 survey, 70% of voters say the country is headed in the right direction, up from 62% in April. Only 20% now believe Ghana is headed in the wrong direction, down from 26% in the previous poll.
The positive sentiment spans all regions except the Ashanti Region, where a majority expressed a contrary view.
The poll also shows a strong 73% of voters approve of the president’s job performance, while 19% disapprove. This marks a historic shift, as even voters from opposition strongholds have expressed support for the president’s performance. Notably, support cuts across party lines—with the exception of NPP voters, where 46% disapprove and 43% approve.
In terms of overall government performance, 18% of voters rated it as excellent, 61% as very good or good, 10% average, and 11% poor or very poor. These figures reflect an improvement from April 2025, where 21% rated the government excellent and 55% as very good or good.
Strong Approval for Economic Management
President Mahama’s handling of the economy continues to earn praise, with 74% of respondents approving of his economic management. On job creation, 67% approve, and 65% endorse his efforts in tackling illegal mining (galamsey).
When asked about the origins of the current economic conditions, 62% of voters attributed them to policies under the Mahama administration, while 23% cited the Nana Addo administration. The remaining 15% were undecided.
The president scored a 7.0 out of 10 on stabilizing the cedi—the highest among his performance metrics—followed by economic management and oral communication (6.6), stabilizing prices (6.5), electricity and water prices (6.0), galamsey (6.0), ‘dumsor’ (5.8), and job creation (5.6).
Standard of Living and Public Sentiment
More than half (59%) of voters said their standard of living has improved compared to a year ago. Only 12% reported a decline, while 25% said it had remained the same. Looking ahead, 72% of respondents believe their standard of living will improve in the next 12 months. Additionally, 55% expect prices of goods and services to fall within the next six months.
The government’s anti-corruption efforts also received a positive review. Sixty percent of respondents believe corruption is decreasing, up from 56% in April. Furthermore, 63% say the government is doing enough to combat corruption.
Interestingly, the presidency and government appointees are now perceived as the least corrupt, while the Ghana Police, Immigration Service, and Judiciary remain the top three most corrupt institutions. The Electoral Commission moved from 7th place in April to 4th in the latest corruption perception ranking.
Bawumia Leads NPP Presidential Race
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the clear frontrunner in the race to lead the NPP into the 2028 presidential elections. Among all voters, Bawumia commands 56% support, ahead of Kennedy Agyapong (23%) and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum (9%).
Support for Bawumia among NPP voters has surged from 57% in April to 70% in June. Among NDC voters, Bawumia also leads with 50% support. Among voters who supported him in the 2024 elections, 74% want him to lead the party again.
However, the contest tightens among undecided or non-voting segments. Among those who didn’t disclose their 2024 vote, Bawumia leads Agyapong 49% to 38%, while among those who did not vote, the gap narrows further, with Bawumia at 36% and Agyapong at 31%.
Haruna Iddrisu Leads NDC Race, But Nketia Surges
On the NDC front, former Minority Leader and Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu leads the presidential primary race with 27%, closely followed by party chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia at 26%. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson is at 22%, while Julius Debrah, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings trail behind.
Among NDC voters, Iddrisu maintains the lead with 31%, followed by Nketia (24%) and Forson (22%). Notably, a plurality of NPP voters (32%) favor Asiedu Nketia as the NDC’s best candidate.
Voter preferences shift among those who withheld their vote in 2024, where Haruna leads narrowly but with significant support for other contenders.
NDC Support Grows Nationally
The NDC continues to gain popularity nationwide. Support for the party now stands at 44%, up from 42% in April. The NPP also saw a slight increase, rising to 32% from 30% in April.
Editor’s Note: The Global InfoAnalytics poll was conducted nationwide in June 2025 and is considered one of the most comprehensive indicators of voter sentiment and political alignment ahead of Ghana’s 2028 elections.
