The Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe and Second deputy minority whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib has expressed his disappointment that Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, daughter of ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) founding father has not been given any appointment in the current government.
Speaking on Starr Chat with host Bola Ray monitored by Kumasimail, the second deputy minority whip gave a balanced review of President John Dramani Mahama’s performance during his first four months in office.
According to Shaib, the president has done “averagely well,” managing to fulfill some promises, especially with the support of the opposition.
One key achievement he mentioned was the quick formation of the cabinet.
“President Mahama promised to name his cabinet within 14 days, and he kept that promise. We even had to suspend some parliamentary rules to make it happen,” Shaib said.
He also noted that the number of ministers was reduced, with the current cabinet having 56 members instead of the expected 60.
However, Shaib was clearly concerned about the absence of Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings from the list.
“But the four left is becoming a problem because I’m expecting Zenator Rawlings”.
When asked if he was disappointed by this, Shaib replied, “Very disappointed. She is the founding father’s daughter.”
Bola Ray suggested that maybe she was being saved for a special role. Shaib responded, “Saved for what? Maybe National Security Minister? She’s quite a sharp lady”.
When asked if he had spoken with Dr. Zanetor about why she wasn’t included, Shaib said, “No, I don’t think I’m the right person to ask.”
“But for me, Zenator is a non-starter that anybody would think that President Mahama would not give her any appointment. I’m not the one to tell the president. But I think that the president should have considered it either for health, defense, or national security”.
He also mentioned that the merging of the national security and interior ministries might have complicated her appointment.
“So perhaps that’s where the problem lies”, he suggested.
