She urged the newly confirmed MMDCEs to focus on innovative strategies to improve revenue generation and address development challenges within their various Assemblies.
“Municipal and District Assemblies are entities that also need to mobilize its own resources. I keep telling them that we are resetting Ghana we cannot reset Ghana leaving the municipal and district assemblies. They have to go down, think Outside the box, generate more income so that it can be an add up yo whatever the government gives. We can’t depend on government for everything. Our people are there, the resources are there. Let’s go out think outside the box and let’s generate more revenue ” Minister said.
On his part, Eastern Regional NDC Chairman, Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor, said strategic engagements with stakeholders including opposition Members of Parliament in the region to support efforts to confirm the nominees played a key role in the successful outcome.
He assured that the party would closely monitor the performance of the MMDCEs to ensure they deliver on the mandate and aspirations of both the President and the party.
“There is key performance indicators those that are being monitored by government itself and those that are being monitored by the party because as they sit there as MMDCEs they are playing dual role they are there as representatives of the President but they are also there at the privilege and pleasure of the party and the President.
He added “So apart from the performance indicators from government, the party also has its own sets of imidcators that we have are going to provide. Next week Friday we are meeting all of them. We are going to take them through what is expected of them (call it a mini orientation) to let them understand the responsibilities they have on them now”.
The successful confirmations set the stage for the MMDCEs to officially assume office and stimulate developmental initiatives in their respective Municipalities and Districts in line with the reset agenda of the government.
