Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, says his entry into politics has always been driven by a passion to serve Ghanaians, not to pursue personal wealth or power.
Addressing party supporters during his campaign tour of Amenfi West in the Western Region, Dr. Bawumia said his track record in public service demonstrates integrity, accountability, and prudent management of national resources.
“I entered politics to serve the people, not to enrich myself,” he declared. “When we initiated the Mobile Money Interoperability project, the NDC had proposed a contract worth $1.2 billion. We cancelled that deal and completed the entire project for just $4.5 million.
That single decision saved the nation hundreds of millions of dollars.”
Dr. Bawumia highlighted that the Mobile Money Interoperability initiative has not only deepened Ghana’s digital economy but also created thousands of jobs while making financial transactions easier and more inclusive.
He stressed that his greatest motivation in politics is witnessing how technology-driven policies and reforms improve the daily lives of citizens.
“My joy comes from seeing these projects transform lives, not from personal gain,” he said. “The real reward for me is knowing that our policies are making life better for ordinary Ghanaians in every region of the country.”
Dr. Bawumia urged NPP delegates in Amenfi West and across the country to support his bid to lead the party into the 2028 general elections, pledging to continue championing policies that deliver efficiency, innovation, and real change.
