The Government of the Netherlands has handed over a funding agreement to support the procurement of new full-body scanners for the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), a move expected to significantly enhance drug-interdiction efforts at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
The announcement was made yesterday in Accra during a brief ceremony, following the closing session of the two-day High-Level Dialogue on Drug Markets in West Africa.
Details of the development were later shared by Ghana’s Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, in a Facebook post.
The event was attended by the Netherlands Minister for Justice and Security, Foort van Oosten; officials from Ghana’s Ministry of the Interior; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa; and other senior dignitaries highlighting the strong and growing cooperation between the two countries.
According to the Interior Minister, the support will enable NACOC to replace its outdated scanning equipment with modern, high-efficiency systems capable of enhancing Ghana’s capacity to detect and disrupt narcotics trafficking through KIA.
Alhaji Muntaka expressed deep appreciation to the Dutch Government, describing the assistance as a major boost to Ghana’s security architecture. He assured that the new equipment, once procured, “will be utilized effectively and responsibly to safeguard the nation.”
The initiative underscores the shared commitment of Ghana and the Netherlands to combating transnational organized crime and responding to the evolving threats posed by drug trafficking.
