The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has responded to a warning from the Private Health Facilities Association of Ghana (PHFAoG) regarding the immediate suspension of services to National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) members due to delayed reimbursement of claims.
In a press release dated April 5, the NHIA acknowledged the concerns raised by private healthcare providers and reaffirmed its commitment to settling all outstanding payments. The Authority stated that disbursement of funds had already commenced on Friday, April 4, following the completion of payment modalities.
“We wish to reassure all stakeholders, particularly the PHFAoG and its members, that the Authority is in the process of effecting more payments that should clear all outstanding vetted claims,” the statement read.
The NHIA urged the PHFAoG to reconsider any action that could disrupt access to healthcare for NHIS members, emphasizing the vital role of private providers in Ghana’s healthcare delivery. The Authority also reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining sustainable partnerships and ensuring the continuity of the NHIS.
“We value the critical role played by private health facilities… and are committed to working together to resolve any outstanding issues amicably,” said Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, Chief Executive of NHIA.
The Authority concluded by thanking service providers for their patience and cooperation, and called for continued collaboration in advancing universal healthcare in the country.
The PHFAoG’s threat came amid growing frustration over delayed payments for services rendered under the NHIS, a key program aimed at ensuring accessible and affordable healthcare for Ghanaians.
