The Ashanti Regional Police Command has announced the conviction of a 34-year-old Nigerian national, Beauty Alakwe, for assaulting her nine-year-old daughter at Duase near Kenyasi in the Ashanti Region.
Alakwe was sentenced to 15 months’ imprisonment with hard labour and fined GH¢6,000 by the Circuit Court at Tafo in Kumasi on December 23, 2025. She has since been remanded to the Central Prisons in Kumasi after failing to pay the fine.
According to the court, Alakwe was arrested on November 22, 2025, following a complaint lodged by a resident of Duase.
Subsequent investigations were conducted by the Kenyase District office of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU).
The court further ordered the Department of Social Welfare to take steps to ensure the safety and well-being of the victim, including arrangements for her reunification with family members in Nigeria.
In a statement, the Ashanti Regional Police Command commended members of the public for their cooperation, which led to the arrest and prosecution of the offender.
The police also cautioned the public against resorting to mob justice, stressing that such actions could undermine the rule of law.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable persons and encouraged the public to report cases of abuse to the appropriate authorities.
