The North East Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), led by the Regional Minister, Hon. Ibrahim Tia, has signed performance contracts with all Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) in the region, marking a major step toward strengthening accountability and service delivery at the local level.
The signing ceremony held in Nalerigu on Tuesday, follows a national directive and comes weeks after all 16 Regional Ministers signed similar contracts in Kumasi under the supervision of the Minister for Public Sector Reforms, Hon. Lydia Lamisi Akanvariva Adakudugu, and the Local Government Service.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Tia said the exercise was in full compliance with the national framework aimed at resetting Ghana’s public service.
“This is in full compliance with the national directive for onward signing by all assemblies under the Regional Coordinating Councils,” he stated.
He expressed satisfaction that all Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) in the region are now operating under clearly defined performance benchmarks.
“I am pleased that all MDAs are now aligned with clearly defined targets, measurable outcomes, and service delivery standards. This framework strengthens accountability, enhances coordination, and reinforces a results-oriented public service,” Hon. Tia noted.
According to him, the performance contracts will serve as a practical tool for monitoring progress, improving efficiency, and delivering tangible development outcomes to communities across the region.
“The Performance Contract provides a practical framework to track performance, improve efficiency, and deliver real development outcomes for our people,” he added.
Hon. Tia emphasized that the initiative directly supports President John Dramani Mahama’s governance reform and reset agenda, which prioritizes discipline in public administration, responsible use of public resources, and improved service delivery.
He commended the MDCEs and their Coordinating Directors for their cooperation and urged them to live up to the commitments they have made.
“I commend all Municipal and District Chief Executives and their Coordinating Directors, and I urge them to deliver diligently on the expectations set out for their respective districts,” the Regional Minister said.
The performance contract initiative is expected to enhance coordination between central and local government, improve public sector efficiency, and deepen accountability in Ghana’s decentralised governance system.
