The Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf John Mburidiba, has praised the University for Development Studies (UDS) football team for lifting the flag of Ghana and the Northern Region high after their historic victory at the 2025 FISU World University Football Championship.
The Minister, who led a delegation of 16 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to the UDS campus on Friday, October 31, 2025, said the team’s success was the result of hard work, discipline, and teamwork.
He commended Vice-Chancellor Professor Seidu Al-hassan, the university’s management, coach, and technical team for their “tireless efforts in building a formidable squad capable of excelling on the world stage.”
During the visit, John Mburidiba, on behalf of the 16 MMDCEs and in his personal capacity, presented a cash donation of GH¢100,000 to the players and technical staff in recognition of their outstanding performance.
The event marked a proud moment for both the university and the Northern Region, as UDS made history by clinching the coveted world university football title.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the university, the Vice-Chancellor expressed deep gratitude to the Minister and the MMDCEs for the recognition and support. He said the gesture would inspire the team and motivate other students to pursue both academic and sporting excellence.
“This support reminds us that our achievements go beyond the campus; they bring pride to the entire region,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
The donation is expected to strengthen the university’s football program by helping nurture and develop young sporting talent. UDS has long been known for its commitment to holistic education, and this latest success cements its reputation as a hub of both academic and athletic excellence.
The visit by the Northern Regional Minister and the MMDCEs underscores government’s continued commitment to promoting education and sports development across the region.
