The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Vice Presidential Candidate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has commended the party’s leadership in the Akwatia Constituency for uniting ahead of the 2024 elections.
Addressing stakeholders, including traditional leaders, the Muslim community, and party supporters at Akyem Wenchi and Topremang, Dr. Opoku Prempeh expressed satisfaction with the newfound unity, noting that divisions within the constituency contributed to the NPP’s loss in the 2020 parliamentary elections.
He emphasized the party’s resolve to reclaim the seat from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Dr. Opoku Prempeh, also known as Napo, wrapped up his week-long campaign tour of the Eastern Region with a visit to Akwatia, a constituency once considered an NPP stronghold that shifted to the NDC in the last election.
During his visit, he highlighted the party’s determination to regain the parliamentary seat, a sentiment echoed by the rank and file of the NPP.
Napo underscored the importance of unity, reminding party members that internal divisions must not be allowed to jeopardize the innovative solutions proposed by the NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
He urged the people of Akwatia to rally behind Dr. Bawumia, the parliamentary candidate Ernest Kumi, and the NPP as a whole, calling on them to actively campaign in market squares, offices, and all corners of the constituency to ensure victory in the upcoming elections.
Highlighting the NPP’s commitment to youth empowerment, Dr. Opoku Prempeh praised Dr. Bawumia as the best candidate to address Ghana’s challenges. He appealed to voters to support the NPP in the 2024 polls to ensure continuity in the party’s developmental projects.
At a durbar of chiefs and people in the constituency, Napo expressed disappointment with the NDC and its flagbearer, former President John Mahama, for questioning Dr. Bawumia’s qualifications for the presidency.
He stressed the importance of promoting unity and avoiding divisive rhetoric, noting that Ghana’s strength lies in its diversity, and unity is key as the nation moves forward.
The NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Akwatia, Ernest Kumi, also pledged his commitment to continuing the constituency’s development, acknowledging that previous divisions had cost the party dearly. He assured supporters that this time the party stands united and ready to recapture the lost seat.
Meanwhile, former Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Mercy Adu Gyamfi (Ama Sey), dismissed unfounded allegations made against her by some individuals within the constituency. She reaffirmed her dedication to securing victory for the NPP in the December 7 elections, urging supporters to remain focused on the party’s goals.
National Women’s Organizer of the NPP, Kate Gyamfua, echoed the call for unity, emphasizing the importance of solidarity among party members in the Akwatia constituency.
