’I’ll be very surprised if she’s cleared’— Sammy Gyamfi on Chief Justice investigation

The National Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has sharply criticised the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) ongoing nationwide “Thank You Tour,” describing it as a calculated attempt by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to salvage his political career after the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.

Speaking on JoyNews’ NewsFile, monitored by Kumasimail, Gyamfi dismissed the tour’s stated purpose, arguing that it is not a genuine gesture of gratitude to supporters but rather a veiled campaign strategy.

“It’s not a thank you tour, what is happening is just a desperate attempt by Alhaji Bawumia to revive his political career after leading the new patriotic party to his most embarrassing political defeat that is what is happening,” Gyamfi stated.

He accused the NPP of mobilising its entire party machinery to support Dr. Bawumia, thereby granting him an unfair advantage over other potential aspirants in the upcoming presidential primaries.

He emphasized “Once again you’re having the entire NPP machinery rallying behind him to give him an unfair advantage over persons who desire or intend to contest him in the upcoming presidential primaries”.

According to Sammy, the tour is focused on meeting party executives rather than ordinary Ghanaians, with little evidence of genuine thank-you messages being delivered.

He remarked “Listen to the programs they are holding across the country, who are they meeting? they meeting their party executives they’re not meeting Ghanaians and what are they telling them do you hear any thank you messages? No”.

Sammy Gyamfi further criticised Dr. Bawumia for using the tour to shift blame for the party’s electoral defeat onto others, rather than accepting personal responsibility.

“We hear Bawumia playing pontious pilot blaming everybody for the embarrassing defeat except himself attempting to distance himself from the very government that he served as vice president of for 8 years and head of economic management team, everyone is guilty except Bawumia that is what is happening there”

He noted that Bawumia has cited reasons such as economic mismanagement, the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), and the “arrogance of power” as causes for the loss, but has not acknowledged his own role as Vice President and head of the Economic Management Team.

Sammy said “Bawumia has aduced reasons for the embarrassing defeat that the NPP suffered which reasons according to him is backed by empirical data and all those reasons border on the omissions or commissions of persons other than himself. He says that number one they lost because of high cost of living occasion by economic mismanagement, DDEP, fuel price increases that he himself was not even aware”

He added “Bawumia says that they lost because of arrogance of power and when he was giving examples of arrogance of power he left himself out, he didn’t blame himself for dancing offbeat to ‘SISI FIA’ song when Ghanaians were complaining at times were hard you see look at the details of the reasons he gave he can say we but in the long run you see him clearly blaming others but himself”.

Gyamfi described the tour as a “charade,” asserting that it is designed to rebrand Dr. Bawumia ahead of the NPP’s presidential primaries and to consolidate his influence within the party.

He stressed “What is happening is a charade of a thank you tour, it is just a desperate attempt by Bawumia to revive his political career at all cost and he’s succeeded to mashall the entire party machinery behind him and that is why Kennedy Agyapong decided to tag along crash what they had planned to do and also assert himself as a potential leader of the party”
