The Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, has installed a new chief at Kyebi Akwadum in the Eastern Region, eight years after the demise of the former chief, Barima Pobi Asomanin II.
The newly enstooled chief of Kyebi Akwadum privately known as Kwabena Anthony Danquah,is an accomplished businessman from the Akwadum Asona Royal Clan under the Akyem Abuakwa traditional area.
He will now bear the stool name Barima Pobi Asomanin III.
The enstoolment ceremony, which was conducted by a delegation from the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council on behalf of the Okyenhene, marked the official recognition of Barima Pobi Asomanin III as the chief of Kyebi Akwadum after the seat remained vacant for 8 years.
He will be kept for days to undergo various traditional rituals ahead of coronation.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Okyenhene’s representative, Nana Baah Kwakye Agyemang, urged the newly installed chief to focus on uniting the youth, especially as the December 7th general election approaches.
“let us all unite as one people, this is an election year so he should unite the youth to exhibit love towards one another and at the end there will be peace in the area”
“we must demonstrate togetherness towards a common goal, this is not the time to incite others to foment trouble and chaos”
Nana Baah Kwakye Agyemang also advised the youth to avoid being lured by the desire for quick wealth.
“I will advise the youth not to be driven by too much money with the intention to get rich overnight, they should use the right ways , there are good jobs available that will end them income because getting rich overnight is not our tradition”
“they should listen to our advise and accept Christ because there is nothing beyond Christ, I will also entreat them to draw near to the scriptures for better life and they will be free from destruction” Nana Baah Kwakye Agyemang advised the youth.
The Okyenhene’s Akwansrahene, Nana Asiedu Bekoe, emphasized the importance of the enstoolment to Okyeman, noting that the installation of a new chief would bring unity, hope, and development to the youth of Kyebi Akwadum.
However, the Asona Abusuapanyin of Kyebi Akwadum, Twum Ampofo, raised concerns about the ongoing destruction of water bodies in the area due to illegal mining activities.
Despite various efforts by the Okyenhene to combat the menace, illegal mining continues to thrive.
Twum Ampofo appealed to the government to create alternative job opportunities for the youth to help address the issue.
