The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called on African leaders to move away from dependency on Europe and America and instead focus on harnessing the continent’s vast natural resources for its own development.
Speaking during a visit by Congo’s State Minister, Jean Jacques Bouya, at the Manhyia Palace, Otumfuo emphasized the need for African nations to work together to solve their longstanding challenges through regional cooperation and investment.
Otumfuo lamented Africa’s overreliance on foreign powers, despite its wealth of resources, stating, “We have all the resources, and the world is chasing us for them.
Why can’t we come together to put the value of these resources in relation to our GDP? Why are we not still developed? Why do we lack infrastructure, telecommunications, and basic necessities?”
The Asantehene pointed out that mistrust among African nations has prevented meaningful collaboration, which could lead to economic growth and development.
He also highlighted the need for African countries to trade more among themselves and invest in refining and value addition for the continent’s raw materials.
