For the Bole District Hospital, the answer is becoming increasingly evident as a long-standing power challenge comes to an end through a partnership between Medical Superintendent Dr. Jonathan Wadeyir Abesig and Member of Parliament, Hon. Alhaji Yussif Sulemana.
In a significant boost to healthcare delivery in the Bole-Bamboi Constituency, Hon. Sulemana has donated a 250kVA standby generator to the Bole District Hospital, ensuring an uninterrupted electricity supply and bringing relief to patients, healthcare workers, and management after years of operating under difficult conditions.
The donation addresses one of the hospital’s most persistent operational challenges. For years, the facility relied on two separate generators during power outages, a system that often complicated service delivery and placed additional pressure on staff.
For Dr. Wadeyir, however, the generator represents much more than a piece of equipment. It is the culmination of years of persistent advocacy and an unwavering commitment to improving healthcare despite limited resources.
Since assuming office in 2022, the Medical Superintendent has consistently worked to identify the hospital’s most critical needs while mobilizing support from stakeholders. Despite numerous logistical and infrastructure constraints, he has continued to inspire staff, prioritize patient care, and champion practical solutions to improve service delivery.
“This is one of the most difficult challenges that has confronted this hospital for years. Since I joined in 2022, we have never had a generator capable of powering the entire hospital. Today, that challenge has become history,” Dr. Wadeyir said.
The hospital’s progress also reflects the strong working relationship between Dr. Wadeyir and Hon. Sulemana, a partnership built on mutual trust, open communication, and a shared commitment to improving healthcare for the people of Bole-Bamboi.
Responding to concerns raised by the hospital’s management less than a month earlier, the MP moved swiftly to secure the generator through his personal network of friends and associates.
“This generator is not coming from my Common Fund, and it is not coming from my National Health Insurance Fund. It is from my own sources through the support of my friends and colleagues because we want to use our relationships to help our communities rather than for personal gain,” Hon. Sulemana explained.
The MP commended Dr. Wadeyir and the entire hospital staff for their resilience and dedication despite the challenges confronting the facility.
“I have been monitoring the activities of the Bole District Hospital, and we can say with certainty that the staff are giving their best despite all the challenges,” he noted.
Recognizing that installing the generator would require additional resources, Hon. Sulemana disclosed that he had already engaged the District Chief Executive and pledged to cover a substantial portion of the installation cost while encouraging hospital management to complement the effort to ensure its speedy installation.
The collaboration between the MP and the Medical Superintendent extends beyond the generator. Hon. Sulemana announced that a new ambulance for the hospital is expected to arrive soon, while work on the hospital’s ongoing infrastructure project is progressing steadily, with roofing expected to begin shortly ahead of its commissioning.
Dr. Wadeyir confirmed that the ambulance is expected to be cleared on August 4, after which medical equipment will be installed before it is put into service.
According to him, the additional ambulance will significantly improve emergency referrals and save lives by eliminating delays during critical situations.
Recalling a recent emergency, he narrated how two critically ill patients required urgent referral at the same time, but the hospital’s only ambulance forced relatives into a difficult disagreement over who should be transported first.
“We need another ambulance now more than ever. With this additional ambulance, we will be able to transport critically ill patients promptly and provide the emergency care they deserve,” he emphasized.
Dr. Wadeyir expressed profound appreciation to the MP for consistently responding to the hospital’s needs, describing the intervention as timely and life-changing for both patients and staff.
He assured the MP that the generator would be properly maintained and used solely to improve healthcare delivery in the district.
Describing the generator as a high-quality machine, the Medical Superintendent offered a heartfelt prayer of gratitude.
“Anytime the power goes off and this generator comes on, the hospital staff, patients, and the entire community will remember you in our prayers.”
