President-elect John Dramani Mahama has pledged his unwavering commitment to addressing Ghana’s challenges and fostering unity, development, and prosperity for all citizens.
During a courtesy visit to the Yegbonwura, the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, in Damongo, Mr. Mahama expressed gratitude for the traditional ruler’s prayers and support during the election campaign.
The visit, which he described as a homecoming, underscored the critical role of traditional authorities in national development.
“I am home. This is where I was born many years ago, and I have come back to reach my father and present this victory to him,” Mr. Mahama stated, reflecting on the spiritual and cultural significance of his visit.
He acknowledged the Yegbonwura’s tireless efforts in garnering support for his campaign, noting that the ruler had traversed the country to rally chiefs and citizens on his behalf. “It is with his prayers and those of many others that we have achieved this success,” he said.
The President-elect called for sustained prayers and collaboration, emphasizing that the challenges ahead would require collective efforts.
“The campaign and election were relatively easy, but the difficult part lies ahead—managing the country, making it peaceful and prosperous for all Ghanaians,” he remarked.
Acknowledging Ghana’s current economic challenges, Mr. Mahama vowed to work diligently to restore stability, create prosperity, and uphold dignity for the nation.
He also sought wisdom and divine guidance in selecting a capable team to help him steer the country toward economic recovery.
“My father’s advice has been clear—I cannot handle this country alone. I must select people with good hearts and a love for Ghana. While it’s impossible to see into a person’s heart, I pray for wisdom to make the right choices,” he said.
The Yegbonwura, chiefs, and elders of the Gonja Kingdom expressed their blessings and support for the President-elect, urging him to lead with integrity and inclusivity.
Mr. Mahama concluded by reiterated the importance of unity, stating that the election victory was not his alone but a triumph for all Ghanaians, including his opponents.
He called for collective efforts to build a stronger, more prosperous nation.
“This is a happy day for not just my father and the people of Gonja but for the whole of Ghana. Together, we have shown the world that we can conduct peaceful elections, and we pray for strength to continue making our nation great and strong,” he said.
