A heartbreaking incident occurred early Wednesday morning at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra during the 2025/2026 Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise.
A stampede broke out around 6:20 a.m., just before the scheduled start of screening, when a large group of applicants surged past security protocols and rushed through the gates.
According to the statement, preliminary investigations reveal that the sudden rush triggered the stampede, resulting in the deaths of six potential recruits.

Numerous others sustained injuries and have been rushed to the 37 Military Hospital, where medical teams are working urgently to stabilize their conditions.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama and high-ranking officials of the Ghana Armed Forces are expected to visit the injured at the 37 Military Hospital.
The Ghana Armed Forces has expressed profound regret over the tragedy, extending heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wishing those injured a swift and full recovery.
Officials are currently notifying the next of kin of the victims.
