At the launch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Women’s Manifesto in Kumasi, Prof. Nana Ama Brown emphasized the critical role of education and skill development in empowering women across Ghana.
Her address focused on the party’s commitment to providing opportunities for women in both formal education and vocational training, positioning them to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s economy.
Prof. Brown began by highlighting the transformative power of education, stating, “Education is the foundation upon which we can build a brighter future for the women of Ghana. It is through education that we equip ourselves with the tools necessary to navigate the complexities of the modern world.”
She called for greater investment in educational infrastructure, particularly in rural areas, to ensure that young girls and women from all corners of the country have access to quality education.
In addition to formal education, Prof. Brown spoke about the importance of skill development and vocational training as crucial pathways for women to achieve financial independence.
“Many of our women have brilliant ideas but lack the resources and skills needed to bring those ideas to life. The NDC is committed to providing the necessary support through various programs, including our Women’s Development Fund, which will help women start and expand their businesses,” she said.
Prof. Brown further elaborated on the NDC’s plans to offer specialized training programs in high-demand industries such as agriculture, technology, and trade.
These programs, she noted, would not only provide women with the skills needed for the job market but also enable them to create their own opportunities and become entrepreneurs.
“When we equip women with the right skills, we are not only helping them; we are also strengthening the entire community,” she emphasized.
A key part of her address focused on the need to bridge the gap between formal education and real-world application.
Prof. Brown explained that many young women graduate with degrees but struggle to find employment or start their own businesses due to a lack of practical experience.
To address this, she announced that the NDC’s manifesto includes plans to strengthen internship programs and create partnerships with industries to provide women with hands-on training and mentorship.
Prof. Brown called on the women of Ghana, especially the youth, to take advantage of these educational and skill development opportunities.
“On December 7th, I urge all women to support the NDC, as we are the party that will continue to prioritize your education, your skills, and your future. Together, we can build a nation where every woman, regardless of her background, has the chance to succeed.”
The NDC Women’s Manifesto, which focuses on empowerment through education, skill development, and economic opportunities, has been well-received by many as a blueprint for advancing women’s rights and participation in Ghana’s socio-economic development.
