Ghana have appointed Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars, ahead of the 2026 Fifa World Cup.
The decision was taken by the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association in consultation with key stakeholders, as the four-time African champions prepare for the tournament to be hosted in Canada, Mexico and the United States.
Queiroz, a vastly experienced coach at both club and international level, has previously managed Real Madrid and served as assistant manager at Manchester United. At international level, he has taken charge of Portugal, Iran, Egypt and South Africa, among others.
The 73-year-old has a strong World Cup record. He guided South Africa to qualification for the 2002 finals, led Portugal to the knockout stage in 2010, and managed Iran at both the 2014 and 2018 tournaments.
Ghana will be hoping his experience can help improve their fortunes on the global stage.
Queiroz is expected to begin work immediately as he prepares the Black Stars for the tournament, which kicks off on 11 June 2026.
Ghana open their campaign against Panama on 17 June in Toronto, before facing England and Croatia in their remaining group matches.
