Some Youth Organizers of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region have formally declared their support for former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, as the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
At a press conference in Kumasi, Nkansah Ababio, who spoke on behalf of the group, said their endorsement was based on Dr. Acheampong’s track record, leadership qualities, and ability to unite the party after its upcoming primaries.
According to Ababio, internal contests in the NPP have often left divisions, but the group believes Dr. Acheampong has the temperament and conciliatory spirit needed to mend rifts and consolidate party unity.
“He is the neutral hand amidst discord, the bridge across factions, and the custodian of peace within our ranks,” Ababio told journalists. “Simply put, he is the candidate for all delegates, executives, polling station officers, and above all, the people’s candidate.”
The youth cited Dr. Acheampong’s achievements in public office, including the launch of Planting for Food and Jobs Phase II (PFJ 2.0), irrigation projects in Afram Plains, reforms in the cocoa sector, and his leadership role in the Côte d’Ivoire–Ghana Cocoa Initiative.
They also highlighted his interventions during the COVID-19 pandemic, which they said protected jobs and sustained rural livelihoods.
They further pointed to his record in Abetifi Constituency, where he has supported education through scholarships, improved access to health care, drilled boreholes, and empowered apprentices with start-up resources.
Beyond politics, the group commended Dr. Acheampong’s private sector ventures, particularly Rock City Hotel, which they said has created hundreds of jobs and sustained local businesses.
“The Ashanti youth, who are the heartbeat of the party’s campaigns, know that victory in 2028 cannot be gambled on weak leadership or disunity,” Ababio stated.
“We require a leader with competence, charisma, and neutrality to unify the party. That leader is Bryan Acheampong.”
The group urged NPP delegates, executives, and polling station officers across the country to rally behind Dr. Acheampong, describing him as “the unifier, the visionary, and the deliverer” capable of leading the party to retain power in 2028.
