The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has issued a stern warning against the unauthorized use of military-pattern uniforms and accoutrements, particularly during recent protests in Accra and Kumasi.
This alarming trend, which includes “individuals impersonating security personnel, poses significant risks to public safety and undermines the integrity of the Armed Forces”, the statement stated.
GAF highlighted that such actions violate the National Liberation Council Decree (NLCD) 177 of 1967, which prohibits non-members from wearing military attire. The misuse of these uniforms can facilitate impersonation and criminal activities, prompting GAF to announce that violators will face arrest and prosecution.
As Ghana approaches the 2024 general elections, GAF emphasizes the importance of public cooperation in maintaining peace and security. Citizens are urged to report any suspicious activities involving unauthorized military gear.
Brigadier General Eaggrey-Quashie, Director General of Public Relations for GAF, reaffirmed the commitment to protecting citizens and ensuring national security.
