Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, has launched a fierce condemnation against President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, accusing it of orchestrating a campaign of political persecution targeting him.
Speaking publicly after a high-profile security operation at his private residence in Kumasi on Friday, May 23, Wontumi described the incident as an unjustified attempt to intimidate him.
“Am I not a Ghanaian anymore? Now that you’ve won the election and become President, does that mean I’m no longer a Ghanaian?” Wontumi questioned, expressing frustration over what he perceives as targeted suppression.
He further alleged that security personnel attempted to conduct a search at his home without a warrant, leading to a tense standoff before the intervention of party officials and a large crowd of NPP supporters.
Wontumi called on NPP supporters and all Ghanaians to resist what he termed political oppression, urging them to rise in defense of democratic principles.
“Ghanaians, rise! Arise, Ghanaians! All NPP supporters should rise. It is because of you that Mahama is treating me this way,” he declared, rallying public support against what he described as a threat to the nation’s democracy.
