Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, has issued a stern warning to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), stating that even if it takes the New Patriotic Party (NPP) 20 years to regain power, they will reciprocate any unjust treatment meted out by the NDC.
Assafuah’s remarks come in the wake of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) imposing what he described as excessive bail conditions on Bernard Antwi Bosiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP.
EOCO set a bail amount of GHS 50 million for Chairman Wontumi, a move Assafuah criticized as punitive and politically motivated.
In an interview with Hello FM, Assafuah expressed deep concern over EOCO’s refusal to allow former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to meet with Chairman Wontumi during a recent visit.
He described this as a sign of disrespect and an affront to the party and its leadership.
“Well, I am told he has met the bail conditions. As a young member of the NPP, I am sending a strong signal to the NDC: even if it takes us 20 years, if they continue with such actions, we will reciprocate,” Assafuah said.
He added, “A whole former Vice President was denied access to the Ashanti Regional Chairman. The party members are not happy with the treatment given to Chairman Wontumi. The disrespect shown to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is painful and worrying.”
Assafuah warned that if the NPP returns to power, they might impose even harsher bail conditions on political opponents.
He stressed “We, the young people, are watching what’s happening. If care is not taken and someone is arrested, we will impose a GHC 1 billion bail condition because that’s the law.”
He lamented the current state of governance, accusing the NDC of turning Ghana into an undemocratic state and urged them to be cautious, reminding them that political power is transient.
