Speaking during a durbar of Chiefs and people as part of his Ahafo Regional Thank You Tour in Goaso, the President reaffirmed his commitment to revive what he described as a “collapsed” cocoa industry, with the goal of improving the livelihoods of farmers and strengthening the sector, which remains a vital pillar of Ghana’s economy.
The President said, “Plans are underway way to revamp the collapsed cocoa sector. Incentives will be provided to our hard-working farmers to increase cocoa production.”
He revealed plans to expand cocoa production by adding 200,000 hectares of new cocoa farms, aiming to boost farmers’ incomes and strengthen the sector overall.
“We aim to add 200,000 hectares of cocoa to Ghana’s output to increase the income of our farmers,” he added.
He also disclosed that the Chief Executive of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr. Randy Abbey, has informed him that the new cocoa producer price will be announced in August and assured farmers it will be “a very, very, very good price.”
“And to cocoa farmers, the Cocoa Board’s chief executive has informed me that in August they will announce the new cocoa producer price” President Mahama emphasized.
“And I can assure you, the price is going to be a very, very, very good price.
