Despite suffering a shock loss at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Black Stars head coach Otto Addo is adamant the team’s qualification to the 2025 AFCON is still in their hands.
He said this in his presser after Ghana lost 1-0 to Angola in its opening game of the Group F qualifiers; the loss ends Ghana’s 24 year unbeaten streak at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
Ghana ranks third in Group F’s standings with zero points while Angola and Sudan rank first and second respectively after picking up 1-0 wins over Ghana and Niger.
Despite the rocky start, Otto Addo believes that qualification to next year’s competition in Morocco is still in the Black Stars’ hands.
“The second half (performance) makes me very confident. The good thing is it’s all still in our own hands. We will play against all the other teams in the group and it’s all in our hands. We don’t depend on nobody to qualify at the moment and this is the good thing. This is a positive thing.”
Ghana takes on Niger next on Monday, September 9 in Morocco at 15:00 GMT.
