Seven individuals have been arrested in a joint anti-drug operation conducted by security agencies and the Asante Akyem North Municipal Assembly as part of efforts to combat substance abuse in the municipality.
The exercise, led by the Municipal Director of Health Roland Miah in collaboration with the police and other state security agencies, followed a joint stakeholder meeting aimed at addressing the growing concern over illegal drug sales and abuse in the area.

Speaking after the operation, the Municipal Director of Health Roland Miah described the day as significant in the history of Asantachi, noting that authorities had resolved to take decisive action against the sale of unapproved and harmful substances.
Earlier in the day, four teams comprising police officers and other stakeholders embarked on a coordinated and planned operation across identified hotspots in the municipality.
The teams apprehended nearly seven suspects allegedly involved in the sale of illegal drugs. Some suspects reportedly fled the scene, abandoning their goods, which were subsequently confiscated.

The seized items, displayed after the operation, were described by authorities as illegal and unapproved substances banned under Ghanaian law. Officials indicated that the exercise was fully backed by legal provisions and aimed at safeguarding public health and safety.
The suspects have been cautioned by the police and are expected to face legal processes. Authorities warned that individuals found engaging in similar activities in the future would be prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.
Health officials expressed concern over the health risks associated with the consumption of unprescribed and unauthorized drugs, noting that such substances contribute to a range of diseases and public health challenges.
Municipal authorities reiterated their commitment to sustaining the crackdown on illegal drug sales and called on residents to be vigilant about what they consume. They also urged the public to support efforts to improve human development and security within the municipality.
The items seized were burnt to avoid resurface on market.

The operation marks the second major anti-drug exercise in the area within a year, as officials intensify efforts to curb substance abuse and protect the wellbeing of residents.
