Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Ken Ohene Agyapong, has called on religious leaders to play a more active role in Ghana’s economic transformation, urging that the moral influence of the church be harnessed to drive national development.
Addressing congregants during the Easter Sunday service at Calvary Methodist Church in Adabraka, Greater Accra Region, Mr. Agyapong emphasized the power of the pulpit in shaping public behavior and national attitudes.
“The people listen to you Pastors and Men of God more than they listen to politicians. As such, we must use religion to drive development in all sectors of the Ghanaian economy,” he stated.
The outspoken politician and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful argued that genuine national progress hinges on a transformation in attitudes—a point he said was reinforced in a sermon by renowned preacher Dr. Mensa Otabil.
According to him, Dr. Otabil’s message, which called for patriotism and a rejection of corrupt practices, highlights the importance of collaboration between the clergy and political leadership in fostering economic and social reform.
Mr. Agyapong’s presence at the service was marked by a sizeable entourage, including his wife, Mrs. Christiana Agyapong, two daughters, two sitting MPs, five NPP constituency chairmen, three former MPs, a former presidential staffer, and other party faithful.
