Ghana and Germany have signalled readiness to resume full construction works on the Eastern Corridor Road (N2), a major highway project linking the Port of Tema to northern Ghana.
German Ambassador to Ghana, Frederik Landshöft, visited the Tema–Akosombo section of the project on 13 February, touring the main construction camp of German firm INZAG near Afienya.

The road project, valued at more than €250m, is being implemented by INZAG with financial backing from Germany’s export credit agency, Euler Hermes.

Officials say the project is ready for full and swift resumption as Ghana seeks to accelerate economic recovery following its International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme and bilateral debt restructuring.
Economic link
The Eastern Corridor Road, designated N2, is expected to improve connectivity between the Port of Tema and northern parts of the country, reducing travel time and supporting trade and logistics.
Project authorities say full resumption of works could create up to 900 jobs at peak construction, with progress potentially tripling once operations are fully mobilised.

They also noted that about one-third of current workers are women, employed in roles including welding, heavy machinery operation and project management.
‘World-class infrastructure’
Speaking during the visit, Ambassador Landshöft described the project as a symbol of German-Ghanaian partnership.
“This project stands for what German-Ghanaian partnership can achieve – world-class infrastructure, real opportunities for people and renewed momentum for Ghana’s economic future,” he said, adding that Germany and INZAG were ready to proceed with the next steps together with Ghana.

Ghanaian officials say the road will be built to international standards and is intended to serve as a long-term investment in the country’s transport network.
The project forms part of broader efforts to strengthen infrastructure, boost regional trade and support economic transformation across Ghana.
