Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been installed as a Lay Canon of St. Peter’s Anglican Cathedral in the Anglican Diocese of Koforidua.
The installation ceremony, held on Sunday, March 22, 2026, forms part of the cathedral’s recognition of Akufo-Addo’s longstanding relationship with the Anglican Church and his contribution to national life. Church officials said the honour is reserved for individuals who have demonstrated commitment to the church and have supported its work in various ways.
During the ceremony, the former president expressed gratitude to the church leadership and members of the diocese for the recognition, describing the honour as a call to continue serving both the church and the country. He pledged to support the activities of the cathedral and the wider Anglican community.
Clergy members and congregants who attended the service commended Akufo-Addo for his public service and leadership, noting that the appointment as Lay Canon reflects the church’s appreciation of his role in national development and his personal faith.
The event was highlighted in a news alert published by GHOne TV on Sunday.
The Anglican Diocese of Koforidua is one of the major dioceses within the Anglican Church in Ghana, with St. Peter’s Cathedral serving as a key centre of worship in the Eastern Region.
