President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in New Alamein, Egypt, to participate in the 8th African Union Mid-Year Coordination Summit and a series of high-level African engagements scheduled for October 2 to 4, 2026.
He was received upon arrival at the Al Alamein International Airport by Egypt’s Minister for Youth and Sports, Gohar Nabil
and Ghana’s Ambassador to Egypt, Prof. Solomon Korantwi-Barimah ahead of the meetings.
The Summit brings together African leaders, ministers, senior government officials, private-sector representatives, as well as financial and investment institutions to deliberate on key issues affecting the continent’s economic integration and sustainable development.
Other programmes on the sidelines of the Summit include the maiden Alamein Africa Forum and the Summit of the Founding States of the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD).
The gatherings are intended to advance African economic integration and sustainable development while creating a platform for governments, businesses and financial institutions to explore investment opportunities and strengthen partnerships.
President Mahama’s participation is expected to provide an opportunity for bilateral engagements with fellow African leaders and development and investment partners, with discussions likely to cover trade, investment, regional integration and sustainable development.
He is accompanied by a delegation that includes the Minister for Trade, Industries and Agribusiness; Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minster for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation; Samuel Nartey George, Ghana’s Special Envoy to the Alliance of Sahelian States (AES); Lt Colonel Larry Gbevlo-Lartey (Rtd), Deputy Chief of Staff in Charge of Operations; Mr. Stanliv Dogbe and Presidential Staffer; Beatrice Annan.
The rest are Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy; Mr. Goosie Obuadum Tanoh, CEO of the Ghana Free Zones Authority; Dr. Mary Awusi and the CEO of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC); Mr. Simon Madjie.
The participation of the delegation underscores Ghana’s focus on promoting investment, expanding trade and creating opportunities for private-sector partnerships as African leaders and business stakeholders convene in New Alamein.
