Alhaji Alhassan Adams Randy has pledged to pursue a more inclusive and united National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper West Region as he challenges incumbent Regional Chairman Abdul Nasir Saani, popularly known as Chairman Bunas, for the position.
Alhaji Randy, who successfully completed the nomination and vetting processes, has picked ballot position number two in the contest, which also features Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency Chairman Samba Sankaara.
In separate statements issued during the filing of nominations and after the vetting and balloting exercises, Alhaji Randy framed his campaign around party unity, grassroots recognition and greater inclusion of women, young people and other party members in the region’s political organisation.
“This journey has never been about one person. It is about our collective commitment to building a united, inclusive, and stronger NDC in the Upper West Region,” he said in his statement following the filing of his nomination.
He argued that the party’s strength depended on recognising the contributions of its members and ensuring that they felt represented within its structures.
“I believe that every youth matters, every woman matters, every elder matters, and every dedicated party member deserves to be heard, respected, and recognized,” he added.
Alhaji Randy subsequently announced that he had successfully undergone vetting and would contest on ballot position two, describing the development as another step towards his vision for the party.
“This is more than a number; it is another step in our collective journey towards unity, inclusion, and a stronger NDC in the Upper West Region,” he said.
Targets grassroots concerns
The emphasis on inclusion places grassroots participation at the centre of Alhaji Randy’s campaign as the NDC prepares to elect its next regional executive leadership.
He has promised to prioritise the interests of young people, women, party elders and dedicated members, arguing that every contribution to the party should be valued.
“Our strength lies in our unity, and our progress depends on our ability to work together as one family,” he said.
He also pledged to work towards a party in which no member felt excluded from its activities and decision-making processes.
“By the grace of Allah, we shall continue to work towards a party where no one is left behind, every contribution is valued, and everyone has a place under our umbrella,” he stated.
The statements, however, did not outline specific policies, programmes or organisational changes he would introduce to achieve these objectives if elected.
Faces incumbent and third contender
Alhaji Randy’s campaign comes as he prepares to challenge Mr Bunas, who is seeking a third consecutive term after winning the regional chairmanship in 2018 and retaining the position in 2022.

Alhaji Randy previously contested the position against Mr Bunas in the 2022 regional elections, polling 157 votes against the incumbent’s 227, according to published results.
His latest bid therefore presents another contest between the two politicians, while Mr Sankaara’s entry makes the race a three-way contest.
The election will determine who leads the NDC’s regional structures as the party seeks to consolidate its political position in the Upper West Region ahead of the 2028 general election.
In the 2024 general election, the NDC won all 11 parliamentary constituencies in the region, reclaiming the three seats previously held by the New Patriotic Party.
Alhaji Randy has appealed to party members and supporters to remain committed to his campaign, expressing gratitude for their encouragement and support.
He also invoked Allah’s guidance and called for unity as the internal election process progresses.
“Together, let us build a new dawn of unity, inclusion, and synergy for the NDC in the Upper West Region,” he said.
