Police at the Ashanti South Regional Command have arrested a 25-year-old man, Yussif Mohammed, for possessing over 200 rounds of assorted ammunition.
The suspect was onboard an Accra-bound commercial bus from Kumasi when a backpack believed to be his fell from the vehicle at the Asankare Police Barrier on Wednesday, May 8, 2025.

The incident caught the attention of police officers on duty, who immediately moved in to inspect the contents of the bag.
Upon searching the backpack, officers discovered a cache of ammunition and other items. Yussif Mohammed admitted ownership of the bag and was subsequently arrested.

Items retrieved included: Two empty CZ pistol magazines, One empty G3 rifle magazine, Two loaded G3 magazines with eight rounds each One round of BB ammunition, Thirty-five rounds of CZ pistol ammunition, Forty-two rounds of AK-47 ammunition, Ninety-seven rounds of G3 ammunition and Sixteen rounds of red-headed G3 ammunition.

Additional items found were a bulletproof vest, two black jackets, a green jacket, a crash helmet, and a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

Officers also discovered a black pullover, a green pullover, two smocks with talismans sewn into them, two pairs of military trousers, and military boots.

Addressing journalists, Deputy Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, ACP Cephas Arthur, said the suspect is currently in custody and assisting with investigations.
