The campaign team of Nana Nkansah Boadu, a leading contender in the Ashanti Regional Council of State election, has accused the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, and the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) Director of allegedly conspiring to alter the list of assembly members who served as delegates in the recently disrupted election.
According to Nana Obour Sika, a member of Nana Nkansah Boadu’s campaign team, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is attempting to replace some delegates after suspecting that their chosen assembly members did not vote in their favor.
“The NDC cannot change delegates for this election. The move they are making is unlawful. What exactly are they afraid of?” Amoah questioned.
He further argued that it is not within the mandate of the ARCC Coordinating Director to select delegates for the election. “It is the responsibility of the various districts to elect their representatives. Where is this sudden change coming from, and why is Dr. Amoakohene and the Coordinating Director involved?” he added.
He warned team Nkansah Boadu will resist any attempt by the NDC through Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene to use rough tactics to rig the election for the NDC candidate.
” we are confident that the last election we won we had more that 46 vote with about 10 more ballot papers to be added to our sorted ballot papers before the chaos. We have firm believe that when we vote on monday our candidate Nana Nkansah Boadu will win”
Election Chaos and Allegations of Electoral Manipulation
The Ashanti Regional Council of State election, which was originally scheduled for Tuesday, February 11, 2025, was abruptly canceled by the Electoral Commission (EC) following violent disruptions during the ballot sorting process.
It was clear that the alleged NDC-affiliated individuals stormed the venue, and disrupted the sorting process, and destroyed electoral materials, forcing the commission to annul the process.
The EC has since rescheduled the election for Monday, February 17, 2025, at the same venue.
However, tensions remain high as the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), which is reportedly backing Nana Nkansah Boadu, accuses the EC, the Regional Minister, and district coordinating directors of plotting to manipulate the election by changing delegates to suit their interests.
With just days to the rescheduled election, political stakeholders in the region are closely monitoring developments, as the outcome is expected to have significant implications for the political landscape in the Ashanti Region.
