Traders at the Abinkyi Market are seeking compensation and answers from the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) after a private developer demolished over 700 shops, leaving hundreds without a livelihood.
The traders, who were relocated from Racecourse Market to Abinkyi Market by the KMA in 2011, claim they were given a short notice to vacate, resulting in significant losses as they couldn’t evacuate all their goods. Despite petitioning the KMA, no action has been taken to address their grievances.
The traders argue that the Assembly sold the shops to them, making the demolition without consultation or compensation unjust.
Isaac Buaben, Chairman of the shop owners, demands that the KMA meet with them to discuss compensation and the way forward if not, the group will take matters into their own hands.
The traders are seeking justice and compensation for their losses, highlighting the need for the KMA to take responsibility for their actions.
