Ablakwa: ORAL team documenting corruption cases for legal action under Mahama’s administration

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu,  Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has disclosed that the Office of Retrieval and Accountability for Looted Assets (ORAL) is actively documenting cases of corruption and state capture allegedly perpetrated under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

The findings are set to be submitted to President John Dramani Mahama for legal action by the next Attorney General.

Mr. Ablakwa made this revelation during a thanksgiving rally at Akosombo, organized to celebrate Thomas Ampem Nyarko’s re-election for a third term as the Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman.

Speaking at the event, the former deputy information minister Ablakwa emphasized the team’s commitment to ensuring accountability and recovering stolen state resources.

“Our team is diligently compiling reports from the Auditor-General, investigative journalists, and civil society organizations. These findings will expose the extent of looting and ensure that those responsible are held accountable. We are determined to recover every stolen resource for the benefit of Ghanaians,” he stated.

He added that ORAL is focused on maintaining integrity and ensuring the process remains transparent and free from compromise.

“We are operating with a no-nonsense attitude. The caliber of individuals involved in ORAL ensures that the operation will be carried out with credibility and diligence. There will be no escape for looters,” he stressed.

The North Tongu Member of Parliament explained that the findings would be consolidated into a comprehensive report and handed over to President Mahama, who is committed to rooting out corruption.

He also expressed optimism that the evidence gathered would lead to successful prosecutions and serve as a deterrent to future public officials.

“This operation is not only about recovering looted assets but also about sending a strong message that those entrusted with power must safeguard public resources. Under President Mahama’s leadership, there will be zero tolerance for corruption,” he declared.

Samuel Ablakwa further urged members of the incoming administration to learn from the past and uphold principles of integrity and accountability.

“Those coming to power must keep their hands off what does not belong to them. What is meant for the people must remain for the people. This is a principle that President Mahama embodies and will enforce,” he noted.

Awaiting the Report

While ORAL has made significant progress, Hon. Ablakwa stated that the findings would not be disclosed until they are officially presented to President Mahama. He assured the public that the report would reveal the full extent of mismanagement and looting, and demonstrate the collective effort to restore accountability.

The initiative has sparked public interest and raised expectations for a robust fight against corruption in the upcoming administration. As the team finalizes its documentation, Ghanaians await the next steps toward justice and resource recovery.
