The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has clarified that the party’s disciplinary committee did not recommend the dismissal of Hon. Kennedy Agyapong.
In an interview with Net2 TV monitored by Kumasimail, Kodua addressed claims circulating that the disciplinary committee had advocated for Agyapong’s expulsion following internal party disputes.
He explained that the committee’s actual recommendation was limited to cautioning Agyapong for comments he made, urging him to maintain the decorum expected of a senior party member.
Kodua recounted the events leading to his petition against the Bono Regional NPP Chairman, Kwame Baffoe popularly known as Abronye to the disciplinary committee.
He said “This time around, Chairman Abronye is saying that the 2023 disciplinary committee, at the time Hon. Kennedy Agyapong said the ‘Showdown’ mantra, but that statement did not sit well with the party. I called him and said, ‘Hon., this statement of yours is wrong.’ I told him I would take him to the disciplinary committee.
He added that the committee had spoken with Agyapong, advising him to refrain from making similar remarks given his status as an elder in the party.
“The committee’s recommendation was that they spoke to him and cautioned him that, as an elder of the party, he should not say such things again,” he noted.
Kodua expressed concern over recent comments made by Abronye on his television station, where he claimed that the disciplinary committee had recommended Agyapong’s expulsion after the party conference, accusing him of damaging the party.
“Then, as General Secretary, the report came to me, and I sat on it,” Kodua stressed.
He challenged Abronye’s assertion, saying, “I asked myself, how can a regional chairman claim that the disciplinary committee recommended the removal of a party figure when no such report exist? To suggest that I, as General Secretary, have shielded or hidden this report is not just misinformation, it is a personal attack.”
