Samuel Abu Jinapor, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Damongo constituency, has been declared the winner of the parliamentary election in the area.
MR Jinapor, who contested on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), successfully retained his seat amidst tension and chaos following the polls.
The declaration came after confusion erupted over the outcome of the election, with supporters of various candidates demanding clarity. Electoral officials and security personnel worked to restore calm before the results were finally announced.
Mr Jinapor secured 16,222 votes, defeating his closest contender, Samuel Garlus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who polled 14,425 votes.
Independent candidate Issahaku Saaka garnered 66 votes, while 356 ballots were rejected.
In total, 31,069 votes were cast in the Damongo constituency. The results highlight a competitive race between the NPP and the NDC, with Mr Jinapor managing to maintain his seat with a significant lead.
Despite the disruptions, electoral officials emphasised that the voting and counting processes adhered to the necessary protocols.
Following his victory, Mr Jinapor is expected to continue representing the constituency in Parliament, building on his previous achievements and addressing the concerns of his constituents.
