Dr. Tony Aidoo, a prominent National Democratic Congress (NDC) figure and former Ambassador to the Netherlands, has publicly questioned the credibility of Kennedy Agyapong, a candidate vying for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential ticket.
Speaking on Radio Gold with host Sena Nombo monitored by Kumasimail, Dr. Aidoo challenged Agyapong’s claim to champion the vision of Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah.
When asked if he supported any candidate in the NPP’s ongoing presidential race, Dr. Aidoo categorically rejected the idea, emphasizing a firm “No.”
Pressed about whether Kennedy Agyapong might be a preferred candidate, his response was emphatic and unreserved.
“Oh my God. Kennedy Agyapong as president of Ghana? Eey!” he exclaimed.
The host referenced Agyapong’s public promise to pursue Nkrumah’s vision, prompting a sharp retort from Dr. Aidoo.
“Which vision? What does Kennedy Agyapong know about Nkrumah?” he questioned, dismissing Agyapong’s claim as baseless.
Dr. Aidoo further criticized Agyapong’s reputation as a grassroots job creator, suggesting that his wealth largely stems from contracts awarded during the administrations of former Presidents John Kufuor and Nana Akufo-Addo.
“How much contract has he got from Kufuor and Akufo-Addo to become a millionaire? And how much of that advantage did he return to the party?” he wondered aloud.
Describing Agyapong as a “loudmouth” whose presidency would not benefit Ghana, Dr. Aidoo accused him of dishonesty and recklessness.
“He lies. He knows he can’t be touched. But one day, somebody is going to hold him accountable,” he warned, adding that Agyapong frequently insults and spreads falsehoods.
When questioned about the truthfulness of Agyapong’s statements, Dr. Aidoo was unequivocal, “He doesn’t tell no truth. He concocts stories about people.”
Turning to another NPP aspirant, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Aidoo expressed a similarly critical view.
“He’s not trustworthy. Another opportunist,” he remarked succinctly.
