Member of Parliament for Akrofuom, Joseph Azumah, has expressed his readiness to support national security agencies in tackling the alleged bribery within the senior high school placement system.
The Ministry of Education recently addressed growing concerns about claims that parents have been paying large sums of money to secure school placements for their children.
The ministry called on Mr. Azumah and others who made these allegations to cooperate fully with National Security officials and present evidence to back their assertions.
In an interview with Adom TV monitored by Kumasimail, Mr. Azumah confirmed that both Dr. Clement Apaak, the Deputy Minister of Education, and representatives from National Security have reached out to him.
“Yesterday, the Deputy Minister for Education called me to discuss my concerns, and I have been informed that National Security will also contact me. In fact, one Chief Superintendent has already reached out,” Mr. Azumah said.
He indicated his willingness to assist in the investigations and provide any necessary information.
“So, I am ready to assist with the investigation,” he declared.
He added that the ongoing probe is a positive step, stating “The ministry’s approach is proper; they are seeking credible evidence, which shows they are serious about addressing the issue. This is why I came forward to speak out against what I saw happening.”
Mr. Azumah also emphasized his role as a parliamentarian, “As members of parliament, we are considered ‘problem solvers’. We often hear issues from our communities and seek to address them. Prior to speaking on Asempa FM, I heard similar concerns shared by listeners on Adom FM about school placement problems.”
He further stressed his patriotism and commitment to his political party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“I am first a patriotic citizen before being a party member. I am proud to serve the NDC, a party known for speaking truth to power and committed to correcting past wrongs. Our governance aims to reset these issues for the betterment of the nation.”
